Imagine thriving island villages across Indonesia, where communities live in harmony with nature, preserve cultural heritage, and welcome guests to experience the beauty of their home for generations to come. This is our regenerative vision. We call it: Desa Lestari.

Regenerative Vision

Desa Lestari: Our Vision for Thriving Island Communities

Across Indonesia, many island communities have long held a deep relationship with their natural surroundings, guided by local wisdom, traditions, and an understanding of living in balance with nature.

Inspired by this connection, Desa Lestari is Lotus Journey’s vision for regenerative hospitality — where our resorts and communities work together to support sustainable tourism, resilient villages, healthy ecosystems, and a deeper connection between travellers and the places they visit.

Our Mission

We see our regenerative hospitality vision — Desa Lestari — not as a destination, but a journey. A journey that we share with…

Our Sustainability Commitment

Regenerative Tourism Above and Below the Surface

Our sustainability journey begins within our own operations, but it does not end there. Across Lotus Journey resorts, dive centres, and liveaboards, we aim to share knowledge and work together alongside our host communities to create more resilient and sustainable island environments.

Across every Lotus Journey property and liveaboard, we are committed to keeping waste out of landfill and the ocean. We operate waste separation centres and on-site composting, and we are continuously reducing single-use plastics throughout our operations. Refillable and biodegradable toiletries replace single-use bottles, reusable straws and lunch boxes accompany dive trips, and single-use packaging is avoided wherever possible.

The health of our guests, our staff, and the ecosystems surrounding our properties depends on what we bring into them. Across our eco resorts and liveaboards, we use non-toxic pest control, eco-friendly cleaning products, and biodegradable amenities. Bamboo toothbrushes, combs, and cotton buds are available upon request, replacing plastic alternatives throughout our Indonesia collection.

Diving (and snorkeling) in Indonesia means diving in some of the most biodiverse marine environments on earth. All Lotus Divers centers and liveaboard operations adhere strictly to Green Fins standards, including no-touch policies that protect fragile coral reefs and marine life. Responsible diving is not an add-on for us. It is central to how we share Indonesia’s underwater world with our guests.

We are committed to reducing our operational footprint across Indonesia, from conserving resources to using renewable energy whenever possible. This looks like: minimising the use of diesel power generation at our off-grid properties, using solar panels to produce cleaner energy, LED lighting across all properties, and encouraging both guests and staff to conserve energy and water.

Our staff are our most important sustainability ambassadors. Every team member across our eco resorts and dive centres receives environmental and sustainability education, equipping them to make responsible decisions at work, educate guests, and carry that awareness into their own communities.
