Sustainability & Community Commitment
At Lotus Papua Paradise, every choice we make is guided by our vision for Desa Lestari — where island communities and the natural world around them can thrive together. We implement regenerative tourism practices, inviting each visitor to be a part of this mission.
The resort was built using natural, local materials and techniques, and a natural wastewater garden treats water before it returns to the island. Just offshore, Hexareefs support coral growth and help protect Birie’s coastline. We also minimise single-use plastics and compost waste onsite, in line with practices across Lotus Journey.
Guest Reviews
What our guests says about Lotus Papua Paradise
We loved our stay at Papua Paradise from start to finish. The staff , especially in the restaurant area and at the dive centre, were very customer-orientated and super helpful. Likewise reception: we needed a few items when we were there and they arranged these purchases through their daily trips to Sorong, so we never waited even 24 hrs for anything. The house reef is very nice, plus you will see dugongs surfacing near the villas – if you are patient …
Very nice dive sites just a few minutes by boat, we would like to mention Upang, an enthusiastic dive leader, who was great at pointing out wildlife.
Not to forget our room; we had a premium villa, it certainly deserved the description as the standard did compare with that experienced at 5 star diving resorts in the Indian Ocean. A place to return to.
Oh my, I don’t even know where to start. This resort was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The location was beyond beautiful, the rooms so comfortable, the food very delicious and varied, and finally the management and staff were incredibly kind and friendly. The snorkelling was the best I’ve ever experienced (although it was sad to see all the ocean plastic floating around and I hope the authorities make a concerted effort to clean up our oceans). A big thank you to Koko and Lia for picking and dropping us, Wahyu the best snorkeling guide, Juan, the best captain, Rio, a friendly face at the bar and finally the lovely Anjeli at the restaurant! We thoroughly recommend this eco resort
This is a truly exceptional place. It is literally where the birds of Paradise come from. The life underwater is extraordinary, soft and hard corals, small and large fish, we swam with a playful dugong and on and on…The accomodation and resort itself are fantastic: perfect barefoot luxury. And a big big shout out to Mie who arranged all our activities: she was fantastic and got my wife and me scuba diving – we literally trusted her with our life. She was awesome. I unreservedly recommend this place.
My husband and I recently stayed at Papua Paradise Eco Resort, and we absolutely fell in love with this little slice of paradise. From the moment we arrived, the warmth and hospitality of the staff made us feel so welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. Everyone was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making our experience special.
We stayed in one of the Premier Bungalows, and it was absolutely stunning – spacious, beautifully designed interiors, a huge deck, and endless ocean views that honestly did not feel real at times. Waking up to the sounds of birds and waves every morning was such a peaceful experience and exactly the kind of disconnect we were hoping for.
One of our favorite parts of the resort was the spa. We opted for a couples massage, and it ended up being one of the most relaxing spa experiences we’ve ever had. Listening to the birds, waves, and surrounding nature while completely unwinding made it feel incredibly immersive and restorative.
The food was also excellent throughout our stay. We especially loved all the traditional Indonesian dishes and appreciated how fresh and flavorful everything was. Every meal felt thoughtfully prepared using fresh local ingredients.
As avid snorkelers, we were blown away by how many activities and excursions were available. We planned something with the dive center almost every day, and there was never a shortage of incredible experiences. Some of our absolute favorites were the hornbill sunset cruise, the Batanta waterfall excursion, and the Fam Islands trip. And of course, don’t miss snorkeling the house reef. It’s absolutely teeming with life – vibrant corals, countless tropical fish, and so much marine biodiversity right at your doorstep.
A special thank you to Andy from the dive center, who helped us plan so many unforgettable adventures, and Ayu from the spa, whose calming energy made our spa experience even more relaxing.
Papua Paradise Eco Resort is such a special place – peaceful, beautiful, adventurous, and deeply connected to nature. We left with so many incredible memories and already hope to return one day. Highly recommend to anyone looking to experience the magic of Raja Ampat.
Really cool/special place. Would not expect fancy, but the staff, food, location are exceptional. The dive center was fantastic. Finished my open water cert at the start of my stay. Instructor could not have been better. And the spa is gorgeous. Hope to be back someday.
First off: Hermanos is an amazing guide for both scuba and nature excursions. He took amazing care of my 10-year old while diving and was on top of everything and very confident.
This resort looks exactly like the photos – it’s gorgeous and relaxing and we felt pampered all the time. Each bungalow sits alone over the water with a 40 ft pier to get there. It opens directly onto the water and overlooks the sunset – ahhh.
The food was very good with lots to choose from at every meal.
The diving was great. My wife would snorkel while we dove, which was easy to do. The three local dives were great. The sunset dive to us was a must and we wish we could do it again. The trip to Fam Island probably wasn’t needed (it’s a longer and more expensive trip). The famous view was nice but the dives weren’t much different from the local options.
The waterfall trip is very memorable but know it’s a much tougher hike than they let on and even a bit dangerous – climbing and bouncing in rocks , trading in mud etc. you must have good hiking sandals for it to work as you also hike right through the stream. But ahh the waterfall swims are magical.
If you have apple devices, the starlink we access is pretty much non existent – we’d get kicked off every one minute.
Know your price will go up while you are there – our 3 days of scuba, excursions and nightly Sri is added up to almost $2k for three days. It all makes sense but it can add up.

The resort sits on uninhabited Birie Island, just behind Batanta, one of Raja Ampat’s four main islands, and is roughly a 2-hour boat ride from Sorong on the West Papua mainland. Most guests reach Sorong by flying via Jakarta or Singapore, connecting through Makassar or Manado.
From Sorong to Papua Paradise, the boat departs at 14h00. On occasion, the boat may depart slightly later due to guest flight delays. If you arrive to Sorong in the morning, you are welcome to spend time at a partnering hotel lobby where complimentary breakfast buffet and/or lunch are provided. If you arrive in Sorong after 12:00 PM, you’ll be required to stay overnight in Sorong in order to catch our 2 PM boat transfer the next day.
From Papua Paradise to Sorong, the boat departure time is at 07h00, as the earliest flight departure from Sorong is at 10:30 AM. Guests who have a scheduled flight departure time before 10:30 AM will need to transfer to Sorong the day before the flight.
There’s no phone signal on the island, but WiFi is available free of charge in the Lounge/Bar area and Dive Centre lounge, enough for checking emails and sending messages.
Even without a diving certification, you can join a PADI Discover Scuba Diving session with one of our experienced instructors. Our two house reefs offer exceptional snorkeling opportunities. Subject to availability, you may also be able to join one of our dive boat excursions for a guided snorkeling trip. Kayaks are also available throughout your stay.
On land, you can discover the island’s natural beauty through guided birdwatching excursions, waterfall visits, and other island tours. For quieter moments, relax with a book on your private veranda, wander along our jungle trails, or observe the island’s remarkable birdlife from our dedicated birdwatching platforms.
