Gangga Island Diving Resort is a fantastic place for divers! The dive guides are exceptionally well-trained and know the dive sites extremely well. They help you find the tiniest marine life, perfect for video and photography.

The staff’s friendliness and helpfulness are wonderful.

These are just two aspects. The resort is also highly committed to sustainability.

A very large system of solar panels and storage batteries provides the entire resort with electricity day and night. Diesel generators are available as a backup, but they only come into play if the sun doesn’t shine for several consecutive days.

The resort also has its own garden for growing fruits and vegetables.

Waste disposal is also well-organized. Debris washed up in the sea, especially plastic, is collected and sorted. Usable materials are recycled. The remaining waste is periodically transported to Manado for further processing.

What does this mean for us travelers?

We no longer have an excuse to avoid sustainable holidays and diving trips. It’s up to US to plan our holidays sustainably. Gangga Island Diving Resort shows us how it’s done!

I recently had the pleasure of travelling again with Malaillo Liveaboard, this time to explore North Halmahera, a remote region of Indonesia. And, just like last time, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish.
The boat itself is incredibly spacious, with plenty of room for guests to relax, socialise, or enjoy some quiet time between dives. The cabins are comfortable, well designed, and each has a private ensuite bathroom.

The food was great: freshly prepared, plentiful, and varied.

But what truly sets Malaillo apart is its exceptional team. Every member of the crew was professional, attentive, friendly, and genuinely committed to ensuring guests had the best possible experience. Their enthusiasm and willingness to help was wonderful. The atmosphere on board was warm, relaxed, and inviting, making it easy to feel at home from day one. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble for the crew.

Another key factor for me is that safety is clearly a top priority for the operation, both on the boat and underwater. There are numerous safety devices on board, and we received a detailed briefing along with a safety drill at the beginning of the trip. The team also checked the conditions at each dive site before taking us there. Dive briefings were thorough and informative.

The diving itself was lovely. Because North Halmahera is so remote, we did not see any other dive boats during the trip, which felt very special. Although I would have liked to see more large schools of fish and pelagic species, I enjoyed the diving. The corals were pristine, there was a great diversity of dive sites, and the cruise director was excellent at giving us options when available. And I saw species I had never encountered before, such as the Halimeda ghost pipefish and the Pontohi seahorse, so that was very exciting!

I would highly recommend Malaillo Liveaboard to anyone looking for a comfortable, safe, and professionally operated diving adventure. Between the spacious boat, great food, outstanding crew, strong safety standards, and superb diving operation, it delivers an experience that exceeds expectations.

Very warm, friendly and amazingly well-trained staff who are attentive and know you by name. This is the best resort for diving, where the diving spots are just minutes away from the resort. Dive masters, crew and the boat itself are great. Definitely had an amazing time in Metita. Highly recommended.
