Snorkelling in Bali
You don’t need a tank to discover Indonesia’s underwater world. Explore Bali’s best snorkel sites with Lotus Divers, including Padang Bai, Tulamben, Nusa Penida, and more. Our expert team safely guides you through coral gardens and sunken wrecks where turtles, manta rays, and even reef sharks are often sighted.
We provide all equipment and support, so all you have to do is show up. While we can do dedicated snorkelling-only trips for larger groups by request, most of our snorkelling tours run alongside our dive trips. April through November offers the clearest visibility, but snorkelling is a year-round activity that brings you closer to Indonesia’s incredible marine life.
Information

Just south of Padang Bai off a white sand beach, Bias Tugel’s gently sloping reef combines coral bommies, rocky patches, and sandy stretches that support a wide variety of reef life. Visibility can drop on bigger wave days as the sand stirs up, so calmer mornings are best.
Sweetlips gather frequently around the coral formations, alongside turtles and blue-spotted stingrays. You might spot a blacktip or whitetip reef shark passing by in the deeper water.
Information
Details
Glide over patchy coral reef and scattered bommies that make these shallow waters home. It’s ideal to snorkel this area on calm days, as bigger waves reduce visibility as the sand stirs up.
Butterflyfish, angelfish, parrotfish, damselfish, fusiliers, and bannerfish share the site with clownfish and anemones. Blue-spotted stingrays are often found resting on the sandy areas, and moray eels and scorpionfish tuck into the reef.
Information

A shallow coral garden set against black lava sand, this site is packed with clownfish and general reef life. It suits every level, though visibility can drop on bigger wave days as the black sand stirs up.
Parrotfish, butterflyfish, angelfish, bannerfish, sweetlips, fusiliers, clownfish, damselfish, and a variety of reef invertebrates fill the coral patches, while sea turtles and blue-spotted stingrays are regular visitors.
Information
Details
The reef begins in shallow water before dropping away into a steep underwater wall, a distinct transition worth the swim. It’s a little further out than most Tulamben sites, so this one suits comfortable swimmers best.
Butterflyfish, parrotfish, angelfish, fusiliers, and sweetlips patrol the reef, and sea turtles are regularly seen feeding or resting nearby.
Information

A gently sloping reef mixes coral bommies, sandy patches, and artificial reef structures that have grown into thriving habitat over the years. Calm, mild currents make Jepun an easy, relaxed snorkel suited to every level.
Parrotfish, butterflyfish, angelfish, fusiliers, bannerfish, sweetlips, and damselfish move through the reef. Clownfish shelter in anemones, and turtles and blue-spotted stingrays are regular sightings.
Information
Details
Rocky reef structures, coral patches, and sandy areas sit at varying depths here, though coral coverage is lighter than other sites. The real draw is the manta ray cleaning station; everything beyond it lies too deep to see from the surface. Big waves and surge mean this site is for experienced snorkellers only.
Manta rays are the highlight, drawn to the cleaning station where reef fish pick parasites from their skin.
Information

A sloping reef transitions from shallow coral gardens into deeper sections shaped by regular tidal currents, with a mix of hard and soft corals over rock and sand. Like Toyapakeh, this is a drift snorkel site suited to experienced snorkellers.
Fusiliers, parrotfish, surgeonfish, bannerfish, and angelfish glide over the reef, alongside sweetlips and turtles.
Information

Snorkel amongst black lava cliffs that rise above a coral garden. When waves pick up, extra caution is needed when swimming near the lava structures.
Hawksbill turtles, blue-spotted stingrays, napoleon wrasse, and barracuda are the regulars here. Whitetip reef sharks occasionally appear too, weaving through clownfish, butterflyfish, angelfish, parrotfish, fusiliers, sweetlips, bannerfish, and damselfish.
Information
Details
A steep reef slope starting at just 1 to 2 metres meets strong, nutrient-rich currents here, supporting an unusually high level of marine biodiversity. Hard and soft corals, gorgonian sea fans, and rocky structures draw in a wide range of pelagic and reef species. This is a drift snorkel site for experienced snorkellers only.
Schools of jackfish, fusiliers, surgeonfish, snapper, and trevally move through the current alongside parrotfish, angelfish, bannerfish, and redtooth triggerfish. Turtles and larger rays occasionally cruise past at depth.
Information
Details
This 130-metre WWII wreck is one of the few shipwrecks in the world you can explore by snorkelling. Resting in black lava sand and rock, it begins in shallow water just offshore, letting snorkellers take in large sections of the structure from the surface. It’s suitable for every level and can even be self-guided.
Fusiliers, sweetlips, surgeonfish, parrotfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, and bannerfish move in schools above the wreck. Find turtles, garden eels, and moray eels closer to the structure itself.
Safety Standards
Dive with peace of mind knowing your safety is our top priority
Each boat has a First Aid cabinet, life vests for all guests (including junior sizes), and long-range marine radios. Every guide carries their own First Aid boxes. There are 3 DAN jumbo emergency oxygen units.
Our dive team and boat captains train in emergency procedures and refresh this training annually. The nearest decompression chamber is 30 minutes from the dive centre, and we hold partner agreements with local clinics for a faster response.
Certified divers dive on free Nitrox, with analysers brought on every trip. Key equipment such as BCDs, regulators, dive computers, and wetsuits comes from high-end brands including Aqualung, ScubaPro, and Mares. Regulators are serviced annually, tanks are visually inspected annually, and hydrostatic pressure testing is carried out in line with manufacturer and local regulations.
Our standard ratio is a maximum of 4 divers per guide, keeping groups small so guides can give attentive supervision, adapt each dive to guest experience levels, and maintain high safety and environmental standards. Private guides and private dive trips are available on request.
All divers are required to complete a health self-declaration through a PADI medical questionnaire before diving, to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of every guest, guide, and dive group.
