Lotus Metita Island is located on a small island just off the southern tip of Morotai Island, North Maluku, Indonesia.

For navigation, the resort coordinates are Latitude: 1.964880, Longitude: 128.230406.

Travelling to Lotus Metita Island takes a little planning, but our team coordinates the logistics to make the journey as smooth as possible. There are two primary routes to reach us from Ternate.

Route 1: Flight from Ternate to Morotai

Flights from Ternate to Morotai operate on Monday and Thursday mornings. You can reach Ternate via connecting flights from Jakarta, Manado, or Makassar.

Same-day connections to Morotai from Jakarta or Makassar are possible when arriving in Ternate on an overnight flight. From Manado, the same-day connection only works on Thursdays; travelers from Manado must stay overnight in Ternate to make the Monday flight to Morotai.

Our staff will meet you at Morotai Airport for the final 1-hour car and boat transfer to the resort.

Route 2: Overland and sea transfer from Ternate

If the flight schedule does not align with your travel plans, we can arrange a private car and speedboat transfer from Ternate to Metita Island. Your journey will take the following route:

Our team picks you up at Ternate Airport for a 30-minute drive to Ternate harbour, followed by a 30-minute crossing to Sofifi on Halmahera. A scenic 4-hour private car journey across the island brings you to Tobelo, from where a speedboat will take you in 1 hour straight to the resort.

To complete this journey in one day without an overnight stay in Ternate or Tobelo, your flight must arrive in Ternate before 12:00 noon. The final speedboat from Tobelo to Metita must depart by 17:30.

Visa requirements depend on your nationality, passport, and length of stay. Many travellers are eligible to apply online for an electronic Visa on Arrival, or e-VoA.

Because immigration regulations can change frequently, please verify the latest requirements and application procedures with the official Indonesian immigration authority or embassy in your country before departure.

o settle your resort bill, Visa and Mastercard are preferred. We also accept cash in Indonesian Rupiah, US Dollars, and Euros. In accordance with Indonesian banking regulations, credit card transactions are processed in Indonesian Rupiah using the current day’s exchange rate.

Foreign currency notes should be in pristine condition, as local banks may reject banknotes that are torn, creased, marked, folded, or issued before 2013.

If you wish to leave a gratuity to thank the team, tips are pooled and shared equally among all resort employees, excluding management. Your contribution supports our entire team, including the hands that work behind the scenes, and can be added to your final bill.

To prepare for our remote island setting, we recommend packing carefully. Useful items to bring include:

  • Certifications and insurance: Your scuba or freediving certification card, logbook, and proof of dive insurance covering emergency evacuation. Due to our remote location, comprehensive dive insurance that covers emergency medical evacuation, such as DAN or Divers Alert Network, is mandatory for all diving guest. We can easily help you arrange short-term coverage if needed.
  • Water gear: Mask, fins, snorkel, and suitable exposure protection. Water temperatures are consistently warm, averaging 29–30°C, so a rash guard or thin wetsuit is usually sufficient. Scuba divers should bring a dive computer, regulator, and BCD. An underwater flashlight is also recommended. We maintain a full suite of high-grade rental equipment. If possible, please notify us of your equipment needs and sizing in advance.
  • Sun protection: Mineral sunscreen, preferably non-nano zinc oxide or titanium dioxide only, sunglasses, a hat, and UV-protective clothing or rash guards.
  • Resort wear: The dress code at the resort is casual. Lightweight long sleeves are recommended for insect protection or for cooler early mornings and evenings. The resort is entirely sandy, and most guests walk barefoot, though flip-flops or slides may be useful. Umbrellas are provided, so raincoats are not necessary on site. If you plan to hike in neighbouring Morotai, please bring a raincoat and water-resistant trail shoes.
  • Reusable water bottle: To help us maintain a single-use plastic-free environment, we highly recommend bringing your favourite reusable water bottle or insulated tumbler.

Health and personal care: Please bring all necessary personal medication and toiletries, as these are not sold on the island. We provide eco-friendly shampoo, hair conditioner, shower gel, and hand soap in all guest rooms.

To help us reduce waste and protect the island environment, please avoid bringing:

  • Single-use plastics and excess packaging: Please avoid bringing unnecessary plastic packaging or single-use plastic items wherever possible.
  • Non-rechargeable batteries: Battery recycling infrastructure is extremely limited in Indonesia, so we recommend using rechargeable batteries whenever possible.

Antibacterial soaps: These can contain agents that may affect the marine ecosystem and septic systems. Eco-friendly bathroom products are provided in all guest rooms.

Yes. Excellent snorkelling is available directly from the resort beach, where an expansive reef sits right on our doorstep. The corals are especially beautiful near the drop-off, where the reef edge descends into deeper blue water.

Guests may encounter sea turtles, bumphead parrotfish, Napoleon wrasse, and blacktip reef sharks. Guided and boat snorkelling services are also available at an additional charge, and snorkellers may be able to join daily dive boat excursions depending on conditions and capacity.

Yes. We offer a full range of PADI courses in English, Bahasa Indonesia, French, and German.

Please contact our team before arrival if you are interested in taking a course, so we can advise on timing, requirements, and availability.

We operate four fibreglass boats designed for diving and snorkelling. Our two larger vessels, measuring 14 metres and 10 metres, feature onboard toilets, spacious shaded gear setup areas, sun decks, and dedicated camera rinsing tanks. Our two smaller boats are used for more personalised activities.

For safety and comfort, the boats are equipped with marine radio, life jackets, emergency oxygen, first aid kits, beach towels, drinking water, hot tea, coffee, fresh fruit, and snacks.

Metita is a perfect sanctuary for those looking to unwind. Non-divers can spend their days relaxing by the pool, on the beach, or on their private terrace, swimming, paddleboarding, or enjoying the excellent snorkelling right in front of the resort and the surrounding reefs.

For those wishing to explore further, we can arrange island-hopping excursions, sunset cruises, visits to jungle waterfalls, or drinks on a pristine sandbar that emerges at low tide.

You can also discover Morotai’s rich World War II heritage through local museums, historic sites, and a remarkable private collection of wartime artefacts curated by a local resident.

Diving around Metita is possible year-round, with warm water temperatures averaging around 29–30°C in every season.

From April to November, the sea is generally calm with good to excellent underwater visibility. From December to March, stronger seasonal winds can create wavier sea conditions and reduced underwater visibility.

As tropical weather patterns can change, we recommend checking with our team before planning specific diving or excursion dates.

The resort is equipped with first-aid kits and emergency oxygen for immediate on-site care.

For medical issues beyond basic first aid, guests will need to be transferred to the local public hospital on Morotai Island. Because facilities in this remote region are basic, all guests, especially divers, should carry comprehensive medical travel and dive insurance, such as DAN, that covers emergency medical evacuation.

The closest hyperbaric chamber is located in Manado.

An open-air restaurant serves three healthy meals daily, either à la carte or buffet-style depending on occupancy. Afternoon snacks are also available during the day.
